A painting that appeals almost everyone and that seems really pretty is just a practice of applying the different shades and vast variety of colors, pigments or paints on such a surface that can hold it just rightly. The surface used to hold the colors properly can be different types.
In fact the type of the surface used by any painter depends upon the form of painting that are being made and the kind of colors that are being used by the painter. These surfaces act as a supportive tool. As far as these surfaces are concerned, a painter can go for a number of options that may include a canvas, paper, wall, wood, clay, and lacquer or may also be concrete.
The two things that are described above are to provide the painter with the fundamental stuff that can lead to a basic form of the painting. In order to modify and improve the painting and to make it look more beautiful and alluring, the next step that is adopted by the painter is to use some additional materials that can incorporate in the decoration of the painting.
Such materials that can be used for the beautification of the painting include clay or sand and even just scraps of paper. These materials are being used for the decoration purposes of the painting on a common basis these days. But on the other hand, another beautifying material that is nowadays not commonly used, gold leaf, is also used by some painters.
